Everything is awful

So, it’s been a while, hasn’t it? This isn’t awkward.

It’s only been close to 2 years since I wrote anything here. Who would have guessed that the last post (which was my most popular post ever) would have been so…prescient? And also, y’know, hopeful. As you may have noticed, the title to this entry is not exactly uplifting or charming.

Since the last time I wrote anything here, the Penguins won the Stanley Cup. And then won it again the following season. That’s an impressive feat. And the Pens have been, shall we say, a little less exciting this year, but those (as I was typing “but those” I accidentally types “butt hose” and had to step away for a minute because I am forever a child) problems seem to have been mostly fixed and the team is fun to watch.

We also elected a dangerous sociopath with narcissistic and despotic tendencies to the highest office in all the land and he’s ruling like a low-rent king of an Eastern European nation people couldn’t plot on a map. That happened since I last wrote anything here.

But those haven’t meant much of anything in the grand scheme of my own little world because my world got a lot shittier in September.

Now For Something Completely Different

I just wanted to take a few moments tonight to say a few personal thoughts. Avoid the Clap has been operating now for two weeks. It has been a truly wonderful experience. Some of you knew me from elsewhere, while others are just getting to know me now, but know this – I love to write, and without having an audience and the feedback I have received, I likely would drop off on writing things nightly or almost every night.

As I mentioned, the blog has only been operating for two weeks so far, but you, the readers, have contributed to 3700 views and over 300 comments. Unreal.

Obviously I am the primary author, but we’ve also got Griggsy and hopefully a few other guest posts coming up as time marches on. If it weren’t for all of you commenting and reading and spreading the word about the blog I likely would have packed it in after the experiment failed. I am here to write both for myself and for all of you. You may not agree with what I have to say, and I can’t promise I won’t say something that won’t rankle some feathers, but I like to hear all views, even if they are different from mine.

I write for you as much as I write for myself. This couldn’t have happened without the encouragement of a few others and I certainly wouldn’t be so committed to keeping the posts coming as regularly as possible. I now spend time thinking about what I want to write about and working on ideas for stories I want to write, knowing I have an audience.

This is for you. I’d be nothing without you.

Let the good times roll.

I will likely be out of commission for the next day or two, so there may not be new posts, but I can tell you I want to get the next Pens Preview up before the week is out and we’ll have a new installment of Griggsy’s Gripes for the weekend.

“The good old days weren’t always good and tomorrow ain’t as bad as it seems.” – Billy Joel, “Keeping the Faith”

Thank you. From the bottom. Tomorrow? It ain’t as bad as it seems.

The bulk of the posts will be written by me, obviously, but I wanted to address the issue of having guest posts.

I am very happy to have some personal friends as well as people I’ve gotten to know over the years via the internet post on here. I already have one request from a friend, one of the nicest guys I know, and I look forward to getting him involved in the blog game.

IF anyone would like to write anything – be it a personal entry, some anecdote, a short story (truth be told, I would love to see someone write a serialized story that went over the course of a few weeks), a rant, a discussion on sports, or anything that tickles your fancy, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Tweet or email me your suggestions or ideas. You can most easily reach me by email at avoidingtheclap@gmail.com and, again, by Twitter @AvoidingTheClap. Those of you who know me personally, feel free to get in contact by other means if you are comfortable with that.

I appreciate the feedback I got on the format, too. I, personally, like some of the widgets on the sidebar, but I understand how they can become cluttered. Expect things to continually change as time marches on. I like to think that Avoid the Clap can act as a microcosm of life, and be complete and total chaos for a while and then become all kinds of awesome once I work though my psychosis. A personal recommendation, though feel free to do as you please, is to utilize the CTRL + scroll wheel to enlarge the text and general viewable area on the new theme. It is a little small, especially if you are using a large widescreen display like I am. Do as you please, just a friendly recommendation from your local jerkstore.
